Since then, didgeridoo crafting has become his primary focus.

Commitment to Native Woods

The use of native wood is of great importance to Chris. He works with a variety of woods, including wild cherry, maple, walnut, elm, pear, boxwood, ash, and many others. Each type of wood contributes unique acoustic properties, which are essential for creating high-quality didgeridoos. For an exceptional aesthetic, he also incorporates exotic woods for the bell and mouthpiece. Chris carefully selects the woods based on their shape and “defects,” which makes each instrument one-of-a-kind.

Crafting Technique

Chris employs the sandwich method in his crafting process. He starts by hollowing out two pieces of wood, which are then symmetrically glued back together. The airflow is the most critical component, as it characterizes the sound of the instrument. After gluing, he shapes the outer form of the didgeridoo according to the airflow, allowing him to work on the instrument’s aesthetics. Sanding is done meticulously by hand to achieve a flawless surface, enhancing both the look and feel of the finished product.

Mouthpiece Design

The mouthpieces are also made from wood (such as boxwood and pear wood), as they are more hygienic, easier to play, and more pleasant than beeswax. This choice of materials reflects Chris’s commitment to comfort and functionality, ensuring that each mouthpiece complements the overall design of the instrument.

Finishing Touches

Chris’s didgeridoos are finished with at least four layers of lacquer on the inside to protect the wood and enhance the sound quality. On the outside, a satin hard oil is carefully applied using a spray gun. Between five and ten layers are applied to ensure a high-quality finish and protection against wear and tear.

Custom Accessories

Each of Chris’s didgeridoos comes with a custom-made bag that provides a balanced grip. These bags are not only functional but also eye-catching, designed specifically for each didgeridoo to enhance its presentation and protect it during transport.

Cultural Significance and Popularity

Didgelement didgeridoos have gained considerable popularity and are often regarded as collector’s items. They are a must-have for any ambitious didgeridoo player, offering not just an instrument but a piece of art that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the didgeridoo.

Chris’s dedication to the craft of didgeridoo making is evident in every aspect of his work. From the careful selection of materials to the meticulous crafting and finishing processes, each instrument embodies his passion for music and artistry. By creating high-quality didgeridoos that resonate with players and enthusiasts alike, Chris continues to contribute to the vibrant community surrounding this unique instrument.

<a
